Getting Found in 2026: Visibility in the Age of Google AI and ChatGPT

The highlighted share is a rough order of magnitude for context — not an exact measurement for every business.

The way customers search is changing faster right now than in the fifteen years before it. Google answers more and more questions directly in the search results — with AI overviews, maps, and info boxes. Analyses have said for years that more than half of all searches end without a click on a result. And on top of that, early adopters aren't even asking Google anymore, but ChatGPT: "Who's a good tax advisor near me?"

That sounds like bad news for websites. It's mainly bad news for invisible websites. Because AI answers don't come from nowhere — they draw on sources: structured data, clear content, consistent business profiles. Whoever is set up cleanly there becomes the answer. Whoever isn't simply stops showing up.

What matters now

  • Technically clean: fast load times, mobile display, structured data (Schema.org) that explains your offering to machines.
  • Concretely useful content: pages that answer real customer questions — not "Welcome to our website."
  • Locally consistent: business name, address, and services identical everywhere — website, Google profile, directories.
  • Provable: references, projects, and reviews that make trust readable to machines too.

The second effect is underestimated: when fewer clicks arrive, every visitor has to be worth more. A website that gets found but doesn't convert loses twice. That's why we always build visibility and conversion together — a page that ranks AND turns the visitor into an inquiry.

SEO is no longer the art of ranking #1. It's the art of being the answer.
